We are very busy watering the veg in the mornings and Zack just loves the hose. The apple trees are wonderful to climb and to day we saw tiny little apples forming where only a couple of weeks ago there was blossom..every day miracles happen before our eyes..the bees are doing their work!!In September when Matilda and Ellie Rose come back,we l gather the apples with our new class and sadly I l have bade goodbye to my beautiful little class of 2012/13 !Just as my class seems to be the perfect little Montessori class it is time to say goodbye!!
We have been waiting for the elderflowers to ripen(like everything else they are nearly a month late) and to day the first few appeared on the tree. With Emily s help we picked and washed them and then grated lemons to add to our cordial. We have put them in a bucket with sugar, water and citric acid and will bottle tomorrow so all can take one home and share with mums and dads.
Last week of school and glorious weather..school out doors!collecting snails from the hostas every morning. Tadhg arrives in school and heads straight over to the hostas in search of snails! Yesterday 6 little snails had a race across the deck! What fun, and of course Tadhg s snail won!!We have 4 new horses in the field so a visit and picnic was enjoyed by all. They are very friendly and are known by name to all the children..Rania,Paddy, Sally, Polo,DC,Leo(last years foal)Ruby and Scoby who is always the first over to greet them!
O n Friday May 24th,a very excited little group of Mums and children set off on the train for Dublin…”we re all going to the zoo to day, zoo to day zoo to day and we re going to stay all day” And yes we did! What a day..from the moment we stepped on the train until little sleepy heads arrived back in Sligo at 10pm,the atmosphere was electric! The sun shone and it was warm ..the day was pure magic. The children enjoyed every precious moment and were so excited to see the animals they know from their books and projects appear before them in their natural environment.I hope that the memories of this very special day will stay for ever.
We went to Lissadell for our annual Teddy Bear picnic and another blissful day was had by all. The children made sandcastles, splashed about in the shallow water and had a ball!!Mums and Dads sat on rugs ,chatted and watched the little ones enjoy one of those days which all of us look back on and remember when we think of our childhood.Another day to cherish in our memory bank!!The morning flew by and ended with a beautiful walk in the bluebell wood..oh! ! what a lovely surprise, the teddies left lollipops on the lollipop tree!
As our final days in school are drawing in,we take every chance we can to be outdoors. We have so much work to do..weeding,watering,watching the birds, finding and identifying wild flowers when we go down the field.Finding snails, worms and beetles takes a lot of time and the joy of finding a little creature always delights the child.Emily(who used to be here when she was 4 and is now a big 13)has come to help for a few weeks. The children love her and she organises some really fun games. Most of all
they love when she helps them make daisy and buttercup chains We ve had some lovely picnics in the field and Orlaith ,Sarah Ciara always gather beautiful little posies for the classroom. The horses are delighted when we share an apple or carrot with them.
