A ladybird and Butterfly!
Last week Ellie Rose found a little ladybird on the classroom windowsill! There was great excitement in the room as all gathered around to have a look!! I used the opportunity to examine the parts of the insect with the magnifying glass. We counted his legs and spots and then carefully placed him in a petri dish with breathing holes .We released him into the garden the next day after every child had a chance to ” study”him! To day ,Matilda found a dead butterfly in the dinosaur basket! The magnifying glass came out again and we looked at body parts, counted legs and wings and classified him as an insect!!Again, it gave me a chance to discuss what is happening in Spring ,the awakening of plants and insects and to stress to these little” scientists” the interconnection between flowers and insects. It is such an exciting time and I look forward to sharing many more magical moments of discovery with my little ones!
